How Dental Implants Work

Though the process of obtaining new teeth from dental implants can take some time, the outcome is sure to bring a great and full smile to your face. Some patients may require a bone graft prior to receiving dental implants, as missing teeth causes the bone in that space to be resorbed by your body. In this case, the implant procedure must be done after a bone graft has been performed and has fully healed. If a bone graft is not necessary, the dental implant procedure can be simple.

Dental implants consist of a few parts and often require multiple appointments. However, with CEREC, you can receive your new crown in just one appointment. First, let’s take a look at what goes into an implant:

The Implant – Made from titanium, an implant will be placed into your jawbone. This implant serves as the root for your new tooth.
The Abutment – Next, it’s time to attach the abutment. An incision is made to expose the implant, then the abutment will be attached and ready for the crown.
The Crown – Finally, a permanent crown—your new tooth—is screwed or cemented to the abutment and you have a brand new tooth!

Advantages of Implants

For every patient, dental implants are made to match the color and shape of your existing teeth to provide a nice match. In addition to the natural look and feel of your new tooth, the care required for dental implants is the same as regular teeth.
